2013-02-18 MonitorWare Agent 9.0 released

Adiscon is proud to announce the 9.0 release of MonitorWare Agent.

This new major release adds full support for Windows 8 and Windows 2012.

It can now also monitor dynamic *.evt files generated by NetApp devices. This permits to process all types of NetApp Event Log Records, no matter how the NetApp device is configured. Also, the “overrun protection delay” preciseness has been enhanced, providing even finer-grain control over how fast syslog messages are emitted. This can be very important for UDP-only based receivers, which need to receive data at a high rate, but slow enough so that no packet loss occurs.

To better support using both the old-style and new-style Windows Events Logs, an Event ID conversion capability has been added (for security events). This permits to use unified event IDs for both styles of the Windows Event Log. Most importantly, this also permits existing (customer) scripts to continue to run with the new style Event Log system.

For OEMs, the integration capabilities have been enhanced. So it now is possible to use customized service names and registry keys. This permits seamless integration into turnkey solutions. Also, for ultra-secure envrionments, this permits increased security hardening as an attacker needs to guess the actual service name if it was custom-set.

Increased SSL security by updated the Core Engine to the latest OpenSSL library 1.0.1e.

Features

  • Added Support for Windows 8 and Windows 2012
  • Increased Timer accuracy in all Services. This mainly effects accuracy of “Overrun Protection Delay” settings.
  • Added support to load settings from a customized registry key. The key can be changed using the Configuration Client.
  • Added support to install the Service with a custom Servicename.
  • Updated to more secured OpenSSL Library 1.0.1e.
  • EventLog Monitor V1:
    When processing .evt files, it is now possible to use date replacements characters and wildcards. An offset parameter can be configured to generate filename’s from yesterday for example. For more details see the manual.
  • EventLog Monitor V2:
    Added new Option “Convert to EventLog Monitor V1” which changes the InfoUnitID back to V1, and converts the EventIDs for the Security EventLog.
  • Added new properties syslogpriority_text and syslogfacility_text.

Bugfixes

  • FilterEngine: TRUE and FALSE filters were not correctly evaluated in certain cases (Like when used below an OR filter).

Bugfixes

  • Fixed/Readded support for the “-r -o” command line switch. This command switch enables you to run the service in console mode for a single run only. This currently only works with one v1 Eventlog Monitor configured. In this case the service will process all Events, and quits the process afterwards.

Features

  • File Monitor:
    Added support for the option “Skip all lines on Startup” when monitoring multiple files (Wildcard Option). The handling was originally designed when the File Monitor inly supported one single file.
  • Database Monitor:
    Added new option called “Close connection after each Check Interval”. This option is needed for unstable ODBC Drivers. What happens is that MonitorWare Agent closes the Database connection after each iteration. This causes some performance overhead, but if used with sleep times above one second, this shouldn’t be a big problem.
  • Write File Action:
    Added new Option “Clear logfile instead of deleting (File will be reused)” used along with circular logging. When this option is enabled, Files are truncated instead of being deleted and recreated.

 

Bugfixes

  • SNMP Trap Receiver:
    Fixed missing source property for received SNMPv1 traps. This Bug was introduced in 8.0 due the IPv6 changes.

2012-03-05 MonitorWare Agent 8.1 released

Adiscon is proud to announce the 8.1 release of MonitorWare Agent. This release includes performance enhancements and bugfixes.

With this release, we offer support for the “CEE enhanced Syslog Format“, a format that intends to ease event processing. A multi-vendor community including Red Hat, MITRE, Balabit and Adiscon will build a better logging infrastructure and CEE enhanced syslog is a major building block. Adiscon is proud to be the first vendor to offer support for this format inside a tool for Microsoft Windows.

There is also an overall performance boost in the core engine. Also UDP Spoofing for IPv4 is now supported.

    Added support for resolving SID’s (Security
    Identifier) in. The Option is automatically enabled for the Security
    Channel, for all others the default is off.

    Added support for new “CEE enhanced
    Syslog Format”
    Added support for real UDP Spoofing, currently
    for IPv4 only. Please read the manual for more details on UDP Spoofing.
  • Core Engine:
    Optimized Core code and increased overall
    processing speed of messages up to 100%.

 

 Bugfixes

    Fixed minor issues with unitialized event
    values.
    Fixed a problem with the “Do not process existing entries”
    option.
  • ODBC Action:
    Hardened code against driver related crashes.
  • Forward Syslog Action:Optimized Code and removed some unnecessary calls for UDP syslog
    messages.
  • Core Engine:
    Updated OpenSSL Code to 1.0.0g and build library
    without dll support. This means the openssl dll are not needed anymore.Fixed internal SSL Server issue. Due a bug, the wrong certificate
    could be used if multiple SSL enabled Services were configured.Fixed a bug closing Sockets which was introduced with the IPv6
    enhancements.

Adiscon is proud to announce the 7.3a  and 8.0a release of MonitorWare Agent. This is a bugfixing release.

This release only consists of bugfixes:

  • Fixed a memory leak in all TCP releated actions that could occur if the TCP session timeout was set to a low value.
  • Fixed a problem with the session timeout calculation for TCP releated actions. If the value was set above 3 minutes, the calculation became inaccurate and could even cause a TCP session to immediately expire.
